The YATTAR G.I.R.L. Foundation is a tax-exempt nonprofit dedicated to empowering teens and adults through faith, mentorship, essential resources, and personal and professional development. We provide support that builds resilience, restores hope, and helps individuals overcome adversity and create stable, purpose-driven lives.
Why We Exist
YATTAR G.I.R.L. Foundation was born from a story of survival, resilience, faith, and the power of having support when you need it most.
My mother was a single mother of five children in New Orleans. At the time, one of my siblings was incarcerated and another was living with family, while my mother was raising three of us at home.
After surviving a life-threatening abusive relationship that placed our entire family in danger, my mother made the courageous decision to leave everything behind and start over.
We came to Houston, Texas, with only the clothes on our backs—no money, no home, and no certainty about what would come next.
During one of the most difficult seasons of our lives, we found refuge at a local shelter. That support gave my mother a safe place to begin rebuilding our lives and getting back on her feet. But starting over was far from easy. She was navigating the weight of being a mother of five, raising three children with her in a new city, overcoming what we had experienced, and doing everything she could to create a better life for our family.
I witnessed firsthand what it looks like for a family to lose almost everything, need help, and have to rebuild from the ground up. I also witnessed the difference it can make when someone is willing to provide a safe place, resources, support, and an opportunity to start again.
Those experiences stayed with me.
In 2023, I founded YATTAR G.I.R.L. Foundation because I wanted to become for someone else what others once were for my family: a source of hope, resources, encouragement, opportunity, and a helping hand during a difficult season.
Today, our purpose is bigger than simply meeting an immediate need. We want to help individuals and families move from surviving to rebuilding and ultimately thriving.
Through faith, mentorship, essential resources, personal and professional development, community outreach, and our vision for expanded shelter and transportation support, we are working to help people rebuild their lives with dignity, stability, and purpose.
Someone helped my family when we needed it most. Now, it's our turn to do the same for others.
